Big Hairy Anecdotal Evidence

Sasquatches are hairy. Each and every bigfoot book – including those by highly-regarded scientists who’ve entered the fray – tells us  so. There is, however, currently not one shred of falsifiable, scientific proof that it is so. There’s plenty of anecdotal evidence to suggest such, but no proof.

Anecdotal evidence is been defined as “non-scientific observations or studies, which do not provide proof but may assist research efforts, usually made by observers who are not scientifically trained”.

We accept the “fact” that Sasquatches are hairy, despite the fact that it is not, in fact, a fact based on any scientific evidence but rather anecdotal evidence.

A new song about the Wild Man

I have been a fan of Kate Bush since middle school. She is an English singer-songwriter who fashions her music around some pretty bizarre – and cool – subject matter. And now she’s written a song about our favorite barefoot friends.

“Wild Man” lyrics:

They call you an animal, the Kangchenjunga Demon, Wild Man, Metoh-Kangmi.
Lying in my tent, I can hear your cry echoing round the mountainside.
You sound lonely.
While crossing the Lhakpa-La something jumped down from the rocks.
In the remote Garo Hills by Dipu Marak we found footprints in the snow.

We Stand For Sasquatch

Hi, my name is Michael H. and I stand for Sasquatch.

I do believe that there is a species commonly known as Sasquatch. I have no definite proof (yet), but why would it not exist? Because we humans haven’t captured or killed one? Bah, is all I have to say to that. I feel they are much smarter than humans give them credit for. I feel they don’t want to be “found”, why would they? Probably have people trying to convert them or folks probing and poking them to see what they are all about. If they have been a part of the Native Cultures in various places around the globe for thousands of years….that’s good enough for me. I have lived in the Southwest for WAY too long but am going to be an Oregonian soon and hope for the pleasure of catching a glimpse before I leave this world. This photo was taken in Toutle, WA 2 years ago, made of the ash from Mt. Saint Helens. Thanks for the opportunity to share my views.

Between the Lines – Sasquatch Culture: Part Three

Again, this is a continuation of my series on indications of Sasquatch culture in incidental sighting reports of multiple creatures. Aside from long-term witness observations, I feel that these types of reports are our best source of information on how Sasquatches interact amongst themselves. Please read parts one and two for context if you haven’t already.

I will add my comments at the end of each report as I read between the lines with you. My comments will include my own perspective of what I’ve learned from long-term witnesses over the years. As always, your comments are welcomed and encouraged. Please use the comment form at the end of this post.

We Stand for Sasquatch

My name is Sali Sheppard-Wolford and I stand for Sasquatch.

It’s been over thirty years since I stood on a forest path with my daughter, Autumn, and looked into the eyes of a legend. A youngster stood by his side as well.

I have never forgotten the depth of intelligence those eyes held. They were not the eyes of an ape, but the curious, reasoning eyes of a hair covered `man.

Between the Lines – Sasquatch Culture: Part Two

This is a continuation of yesterday’s blog post about Sasquatch culture (please read it if you haven’t already, because it sets the context for today’s post).

Again, in this blog series we’re looking into reports of sightings of multiple Sasquatches in my database to see if we can catch glimpses of clues about their culture. I will add my comments at the end of each report as I read between the lines with you. My comments will include my own perspective of what I’ve learned from long-term witnesses over the years. As always, your comments are welcomed and encouraged. Please use the comment form at the end of this post.

Between the Lines – Sasquatch Culture: Part One

Many years ago, I coined the term “long-term witness” to describe those who interact with Sasquatches on a regular basis, either on their own property or at an off-site habituation area. In order to differentiate between these witnesses and those who simply end up having a sighting by being at the right place at the right time, I termed the others “incidental witnesses“.

The Oregon Bigfoot database contains over 2000 reports from across the country, many of them unpublished. Some of them are from long-term witnesses. Most of them detail sightings and encounters by incidental witnesses.

We Stand for Sasquatch

My name is Brent B. and I am a member of the Oregon Bigfoot community.

I was born and raised in Florida and split my time living in Florida and northern Georgia. This photo was taken in the Chattahoochee forest near McCaysville, Georgia.

I was an avid hunter in my earlier life and I had several unexplainable “experiences” in the woods that led to my interest in the Big Guys. I feel that they are very intelligent and are related to us. I think they are curious about us but fear us at the same time.

Long-term witness interview uploaded… update on DNA study… and more

Uploaded to the media archives – An audio interview, over 45 minutes in length, with a good friend and long-term witness from Oklahoma. She shares detailed information about her encounters, as well as an audio recording made during a sighting on her property. Audio and images.

Today, I want to talk to you about some things I’ve learned from working with long-term witnesses for over two decades.

Historically, most long-term witnesses have been reluctant to talk publicly about their encounters. Just as incidental witnesses (those who have brief sightings like road crossings) have met with skepticism and ridicule from the public, long-term witnesses have found the bigfoot research community to be equally resistant to accepting their anecdotes. Why?

Please Stand For Sasquatch

It has long been the goal of the Oregon Bigfoot community to raise awareness about Sasquatch. However, it has not been our goal to simply raise awareness that Bigfoot exists; the purpose behind this website and everything we do is to attempt to understand who or what they are, to share what information we can as responsibly as we can in order to not compromise them in the process, and to help instill compassion and a desire to truly protect them – from us – in our readers.

Bigfoot: Cultural Anthropology vs. Wildlife Biology

Human or Animal?

In yesterdays blog post, I made the following statement:

I firmly believe that Bigfoot research is best approached from a cultural anthropology standpoint rather than a wildlife biology standpoint.

As promised, I wanted to delve deeper into this subject today. First, we’re going deal with the semantics argument. Then, we’ll talk about why I feel the differentiation is of the utmost importance.

For 50 years, it has been a popular assumption that Bigfoot is a “North American Ape”. What is an “ape”? An ape includes any member of the Hominoidea superfamily of primates. There are two families of hominoids. The “lesser” apes, Hylobatidae, consists of 12 species of gibbon.

Want to be in a bigfoot movie?

Our investigator, Felicia Bryant, sent me this from Craigslist. Sounds like they’ve already hired the Sasquatch. *grin*

Bigfoot Film (Medford/Ashland)

We are shooting a movie Sept. 28-October 4 2009 here in the Rogue Valley. The film is called “The True Believers” and is about two brothers from Mississippi who come through Oregon in search of Sasquatch. We need to cast extras and actors for some small to medium sized roles.

We are looking for middle aged to older individuals who have had an actual experience in which they saw Big Foot.

Bigfoot “spotted” at Ross Island

[Editor’s note: This article made absolutely NO sense to me at first, because there was no photo or video attached. I finally found another article about it with a photo. Apparently, there is a faux-fur covered “bigfoot” statue on Ross Island… no one knows who built it, but it was first spotted over Labor Day weekend.]

Scott Burton

PORTLAND, Ore. — For decades we’ve trekked the depths of our world’s forests following sightings and reports of a giant beast; part ape, part human. Now the trek ends here.

Jeepers Creepers… Those are Creepy Peepers!

bigeyes2Here I am again, fixated on Bigfoot eyes. It’s been a lifelong obsession, so why stop now?

In today’s post, I’ll be covering several topics: bigfoot eyeshine, accuity of night vision, the ability of these creatures to see light spectrums beyond what we can see, and potential applications in field research.

Many, many eyewitness accounts of bigfoot sightings indicate eyeshine or “glowing eyes”. Eyeshine is often described as red – though other colors such as green and even blue- have been reported as well.

But what is the actual physical mechanism that would create this phenomenon?

Kenny Mahoney Game Cam Photo… Is it Bigfoot?

mahoneySome wonder if mysterious image in picture is Big Foot

FAIRDALE, KY (WAVE) – Conspiracy theorist have tried to prove the possibility of aliens, sea monsters, and even shape shifters, now there is a mystery Jefferson County. Kenny Mahoney, born and raised in Fairdale, snapped a picture of what some people are calling Big Foot.

His hunting camera, which is operated by a motion detector, normally picks up rabbits, deer and turkeys, but on September 1 around 2:15 p.m. it picked up a strange image that looks like some sort of large black creature, one Mahoney estimates taller than he.
