Description of event: In the first case, a high school teacher was on a solitary day hike to Linton Lake when she noticed what she first thought was a very large man striding down the opposite shore. She soon realized that this creature was covered in fur and was far too large to be a man. It did not see her as she was standing in the shadows of the forest gazing across the lake. She watched it stride down the lakeshore for a minute or so before it turned and walked into the forest. In telling her story she used the term "massive" several times in describing her amazement at the size of this creature. She also related a sense of awe at encountering a creature which she had previously regarded as myth, yet she felt no fear of it. This occured in the late 70s.
