Description of event: While performing a night time land navigation course for the National Guard I was the lead person of an eight man squad moving through pre-determined checkpoints. I felt that there was something moving approximately 50 meters to the right of our formation through the trees. When I looked in the direction I observed a very tall creature moving rapidly behind the trees using very large strides. This creature was moving very deliberately but did not appear to be moving at full speed. The creature continued to move away from my group until it was no longer visible between the forest trees. Nobody else in the group saw the creature, although when I asked, the others said that I looked like I was scared.
