Location: I would suggest a forest service map of the area north west of Hwy 97 X-1, C-1 hunting zones. But the area I've seen them is just east of dark canyon, and below eagle rock on hunting rd.

REPORT DETAIL

Description of event: One evening me and my family were bow hunting in this area we've hunted since my dad was young; 40 yrs. or more. This year was strange because several of us had hit a deer with our bow but never able to recover the game. Our camp had about 8 or so hunters. This was sad and different because we one shot one kill.
But this evening, just before the prime time, I call it, when we have our best bet to get a shot. I was sitting in my truck parked on the down side of Eagle Rock Rd. waiting for just before dusk. This had been a good area because of a salt lick on a trail in the area. Then suddenly I saw, what I thought was a hunter, crossing the road ahead about 80 yards or so and then 3 more right behind him. They looked right up at me sittin in my truck. They knew I was there all along. I was then floored when I looked thru my binoculars and seen what I saw. They were sort of grayish brown with rusty color blended in.
From my point I would say they were about 6-7 ft tall rugged looking. After about 10 min. or so I coasted down the hill to check it out. I saw no sign of anything but smelled a real rotten carcass type of smell that seemed to just kinda stick in your nose. So, ever since then, I believe thats why a lot of us never found the deer we shot. Because these creatures found them first and to this day, we still hunt the area. Still, it's as eerie of a place as it was when I was little, hunting with my dad.
