REPORT DETAIL

Description of event: I was backpack camping at Loon Lake with my girlfriend two years ago. We stayed overnight at the lake and were the only people there that evening. We did not start a campfire that evening as there was a burn ban in place. Sometime in the night I heard some strange howling/hooting sound. It seemed to be coming from one of the meadows just north of our campsite, maybe a 100 yrds away. I listened for some time trying to figure out what it was, and couldn't put it to anything I have heard before. My first thought was it was the sound of an elk, but it was not the typical trumpeting. I grew up in this part of the world and have spent lots of time in the wilderness and it was the strangest thing I have heard camping. Looking back now I wish I would have recorded it on my cellphone. After getting back home I was intrigued and so I looked up all the known sounds of animals in this area (bear, elk, wolf, coyote, owl), nothing was like what I heard. After finding the sound clips on this site I am convinced it sounded similar to the Estacada sound clip that is on this website. http://www.oregonbigfoot.com/sounds/ORBF_estacada1972.mp3
