Couple sees creature and tracks while bear hunting near Yreka

Location: It was many years ago. I don't remember the name of the river but it was below Yreka.

Description of event: My husband and I were hunting for bear. As we were walking along a river bank we came across some Large foot prints. My husband was wearing his "10 ton" western hat and he took it off to cover the tracks....the toes and heel stuck out from the hat...it was that large. We continue along the bank when we heard some rustling of the leaves. From behind a large bush this huge animal stood up on back legs and looked at us. It was NOT a bear. It stood above my husband who was 6 foot tall. It didn't move for a few seconds then resumed stripping berries off of the bush he was by. He continued eating the berries for several more minutes then turned and walked away. He didn't seem concerned with us and showed no fear or violence toward us. My heart then starting beating again. On that trip we saw evidence of the beast 2 more times although we didn't actually see him again.
