Clatsop County county, OR
Nearest town: Astoria
Nearest road: Highway 30
Time: mid morning
Location: Drive past the gnat creek campground itself and follow the logging roads up about 1 mile. Off the left hand side of the road down less than 1/4 mile among very tall trees and in soft pine-needle ridden ground.
Description of event: Multiple very large (not possible being any native species) footprints at quite a length apart, appearing to only be 2 feet used for the movement through the wooded area. No trees or branches were broken which you would assume for something of such size wandering through the forests. Prints appeared to stop at a drop-off maybe 200 yds after the original sighting of the prints. After realizing we were most likely in the area of a species we were not prepared to encounter, we left and went back to our camp that we had set up off one of the logging roads past the official campground.
