REPORT DETAIL

Description of event: I was camping with my brother and a friend. We went to bed. I was asleep for a little while when I woke up to a noise like a stick breaking. A couple of minutes went by and it was completely silent, then I heard something on the hill across from the tent (sticks breaking, dirt and rocks sliding). It sounded like something big fell or slid down the steep bank coming down to the road then nothing but silence again. I didn't think much of it at the time because there are many animals out there so I tried to go back to sleep. Probably about an hour passed, I was almost asleep when I heard a loud noise that woke the other two people up. It sounded like it was just a few yards behind the tent. It was so loud and nothing like I have ever heard. It's hard to describe the sound, it was like a howl that turned into a scream. When it first started it sounded like a siren. It was like a howl that started off low and got louder and higher pitched then turned into a scream so loud I don't know anyone or anything that could even come close to being half that loud. Immediately following the scream was about 6 to ten short noises not as loud but still pretty loud that sounded almost exactly like a monkey(ooh ooh ooh ah ah ooh ah ah ah). About 5 seconds later another howl/scream just like the first one, just as loud but from another direction and farther away, then silence again - a very eerie silence not normal for the area. I usually hear frogs and little animals running around etc. Normal nighttime noises you would expect to hear in the woods, but it was complete silence the rest of the night.
