Gable Film Update… the plot thickens

Just when you thought it was safe to research something that happened in the 1970’s…

“Copies” of the Gable Film keep disappearing from Youtube. Particularly the second film. (Warning – graphic content)

The other day, while attempting to download a copy of the film for safekeeping, I came across this:

This video purports to be a response from the person who originally uploaded the second film. The message reads as follows:

“I’m sorry I haven’t answered any emails, I’ve been… unavoidably detained.

Let me just say that I can’t say for certain that Johnny wasn’t a big practical joker,  he left Michigan before I really had a chance to know him. I didn’t shoot this film, I wish I could tell you with absolute certainty what this film is,….. but Denouncing Negative Reactions Can Often Vilify Every Rational Uniform Position, so I can only say that this looks like just a matter of individual interpretation.

……I hope  you understand.

I never meant to mislead anyone, or do anything illegal….. I just found this all very interesting and wanted to share.

That’s all.

Tell the troops I said good-bye.

Now, I had written to Quinlan some time ago and never got a response. There is a great deal of “dramatic” intent obvious in this email, which immediately smacked of someone having a little fun and leading us on. I mean, ‘cmon…

= DNR COVER UP?

That seems a bit much.

But then Scott Davis sent me the following this morning. Several of our members have been following this as well, and Peter stumbled across this on Steve Cook’s Dogman site:

” Without going into detail, it seems that GF2 has gotten the attention of authorities, which led them back to us. I was asked to temporarily halt the download of The Gable Film from the website, and turn over the original 8mm film so it could “be looked into.” I explained that very little is left of the original film, much of it having disintegrated in the digitizing projector, but they still wanted the remains.

What this all means I can’t be sure. It may be an official investigation, or simply a check to satisfy someone’s curiosity. Either way, I hope it leads to something conclusive.”

I haven’t heard a word back yet from any of the people I contacted last week. I don’t expect to hear back from the newspaper gal until this coming week… I’ve contacted Steve Cook over at Michigan Dogman with the following:

I wanted to contact you regarding your contact with the “authorities” re: the Gable film. I’ve been following this closely on my blog and doing my own research on the subject. (http://www.oregonbigfoot.com/blog/)

May I ask WHICH authorities contacted you? Was it the DNR? How do they proclaim to have authority or jurisdiction over the film? I can understand them wanting a copy to study, but the original?

I’d appreciate some clairifcation on this. :)

Thanks,

Autumn

I’m going to withhold further comment at this time, since I’m not sure exactly HOW I feel about these latest developments. I do know that I will continue to make the film available for as long as I’m able. Perhaps if these “authorities”, whoever they may be, contact me, I can shed some light on that aspect of this for all of you.
