REPORT DETAIL

Description of event: My husband,11 month old daughter and myself were on site for a logging job that he was on. We had chosen to camp out in the wilderness area seperately from everyone else. It was a saturday afternoon and we had decided to go for a hike up into the mountains behind our camp site. We hiked up the mountain for quite sometime and eventually ran into what had once been an old logging road . It appeared that the area had been logged probably 30 years or so prior and the road was pretty well overgrown , although it was a beautiful area and we decided to continue our walk along the road for a ways. We were walking along and came around a slight bend when we noticed a small hill off to our left that quite obviously was used quite a bit. There were no dear tracks or anything like that. There were other tracks though. We couldn't tell what they were, only that they were larger then anything we could place ,they were fresh tracks and they were also fairly smeared. It was at this point that we noticed that it had suddenly gotten completely quite, even the birds had quite singing. I asked my husband what he thought was going on and he said that he was feeling very odd. I was also feeling it , but we decided that we were being silly and therefore we would get back to our hike. We had only gone about another 50 feet or so , when we both just looked at each other and we both just froze. I asked him if he could feel it, he said yes....something was watching us. It was such an eerie feeling. We both started walking slowly forward just hoping that the feeling would go away. About twenty feet further along we came upon the remnants of a small late spring water run that had come across the road. There was only about an 8" wide flow still running across, but it stopped us dead in our tracks again. There on the side we were on was something neither of us had ever seen before. There were two footprints. One slightly behind the other and both of them were right foot prints. The first was approximately 18" long and close to an inch deep the second was about 11" long and 1/2" deep. We just stood there and looked at those prints for about 45 seconds, the whole time still feeling that we were being watched and from very closely. We both just took off running as fast as we could go down off that hill, my husband and I taking turns holding on to my daughter. We didn't stop until we hit the bottom of the mountain. That day , we went back into town and three day's later we went back to camp, which had been destroyed. We loaded up what was left and went home. We never went back into the area again. I don't really believe that our camp was destroyed by whatever it was that we had come across up in those mountains, but I didn't have any intention of sticking around to find out if it was friendly or not either.
