bountry waters. It was about 20 miles E of grand marais in the boundry waters canoe area Eastbear skin lake
Description of event: About 3:00 am sitting by campfire my husband and two year old daughter were sleeping in our tent. I stayed up to hear the wolfs howling. I knew I was safe because the tent was right there.
About 4:00 I heard the wolves and other night animals like frogs etc. I went to bed in. There is a steep hill on the other side of the lake, it's not a wide lake, I layed down and listen to the night time creatures - frogs, nightbirds, etc. Then every thing became silent. I thought that was strange - I laid there and listend.
Then I heard crashing on the other side of the lake, somthing was coming down on the other side, I wanted to wake up my husband but I felt I couldnt move. Then it hit the water, I heard splash,splash,like what ever it was is coming through the water towards us.
At that point I woke my husband all he said was what is that smell? Then I realized it smells like a catbox. What ever it was smelled very bad. I told him what I heard, we left when we started hearing the frogs, normal things agan. I will not go back to the boundry waters again.
