For Your Collection:

Meet the Sasquatch
Chris Murphy, with the help of John Green and Thomas Steenburg, as well as many others, may have produced the best Sasquatch/Bigfoot book since Green's "Sasquatch: the Apes Among Us" in 1978.

This book is deceptively thin, but holds within over 640 pictures, some of which have never been published before.

Walking With the Great Apes: Jane Goodall, Dian Fossey, Birute Galdikas

In this study of three great female primatologists, science journalist Montgomery moves beyond biography into ethnology, taking a step that goes well beyond even her subjects' research. Goodall, Fossey and Galdikas each made a similar leap, the author contends, moving from observers and recorders to an almost shamanistic quest to enter the world of the apes they studied.

Hard at work :)

EXCITING NEWS! An old favorite, Bigfoot Casebook Updated: Sightings and Encounters from 1818-2004 by Janet & Colin Bord has JUST been released by Pine Winds Press. (This is the same company who will be releasing my mother's book, Valley of the Skookum, soon).

This book is a MUST HAVE for any serious Bigfoot enthustiast. It was the first to list sightings in chronological order, and still one of the best books on the long, documented history of Bigfoot. There are encounters from almost every US state and Canadian province and territory.

In other news, I'm STILL working on the documentary. <grin> It will be released in a two-part series. If you'd like to be notified when the first DVD is available, please send me an email.

The newsletter is slightly shrimpy this month. My apologies in advance. Aside from everything else, I'm in the process of moving and starting a new job this week in order to pay the bills. (I remember when I was a kid, wandering around aimlessly and complaining to Mom that I was "bored". GEEZ, what I wouldn't give for that kind of luxury right about now! <grin>)

Comment on Lane county report: Camper frightened near Kitson Hot Springs

(Editor's note: I found this story very interesting... and a little amusing. :))

My son and I had hiked into Linton Lake and camping for the night. I woke early to see my dog (a Jack Russel) chasing two brown hairy bigfoot things up the hill. The oddest thing about it was that instead of the typical "adrenalized fear"; people talk of - I couldn't stop laughing because it was hilarious. My dog returned about five minutes later with a pretty nasty bash/cut/gash/bruise to his jaw and mouth. He's o.k. and we're still not scared and have returned numerous times - uneventful.

Comment on Pierce county report: Miltary personnel feel watched, hear limbs breaking at Fort Lewis

This sounds very familiar--I was with the 2nd Ranger Bn. and spent lots of time in South Ranier--The stories of Bigfoot are plentiful in this unit. We have a strong belief that he exist and there are many
encounters that are discussed regularly. We spent days at a time in the deep woods of Ranier and this feeling of being observed that we had always came with twigs snapping etc. I had my own encounter that I have kept fairly private. On our off time we use to travel and visit pubs that were out in the middle of nowhere -all of the old timers would tell us the Sasquatch stories--I truly enjoy this website and cannot wait for proof of Bigfoot so that I might tell my story.

Comment on Snow Peak sightings followup journal entry

I am a believer and a big fan of your web site. I was reading your report on the Billy Lake sighting. I have lived in the Lebanon and Albany area all of my life and in addition spent 22 years of it running around the woods with the Oregon Army National Guard. The swamp in the picture is what is know to me as Billy Lake. If you were to hike up the hill past Billy Lake about 300 yards you will run into another Lake. It's name is Crabtree Lake. I have fished for trout in both lakes. I was talking to a friend of mine about a week ago about Bigfoot and he told me that his saw footprints up at Crabtree lake. I am guessing this was less that 10 years ago. Possibly this creature has lived in this area for some time. I have another national guard buddy who claimed to be up on the upper santiam who said he had a boulder thrown at him from to top of a ridge that was the size of a basketball narrowly missing him. He said he didn't see or smell anything but boulder this size don't come flying through air on there own. Last but not least I was trainning at Camp Rilea in 1993 and was sitting in that barraks doing what most soldiers do and that's hurry up and wait. I fellow soldier and good buddy named XXXXX came into the room and said "Hey! you guys hear what happened up at Jewell Mist? " We all said "No..... what?" He went on to tell us that a group of soldiers had spotted 3 bigfoot while training. I later to my suprize saw this on T.V. while watching un-solved mysteries. If you doubt my credibility I will also tell you that I was Company Commander of B co XXX infantry. Although I have never seen one of these creatures but I know a few folks who have. I am a private pilot and have spent many years flying over the vast timberland and can understand why it would be so hard to find one.

Comment on Clatsop county report: Saddle Mt. Park - Man hears tree rapping, has odd dream...

I am from the Yukon and I have seen a sasquatch, or what the local natives call a "bushman" twice. I have also spoken to others (local natives) who have seen, heard or "felt" this creature also. As a result I have some very strong convictions. One is that they definately have the ability to play "mind
tricks" on people. One such situation involved my brother while at his homestead at the edge of town (Whitehorse). It all started when during the night these terrible hideous screems would emerge from the forest. First they would come from the east and the next thing you know it from the west. Then again from the east. And all the time the pet dog would be going into a barking frenzy and flying across the fenced in yard back and forth towards the screem. At first they thought it might be a screach owl but when my brother described the sound they heard to several local natives they all were certain that it was in fact a "bushman". A pretty "hairy" situation I would say, especially since my brothers' family consists of a wife and three very young children.

Anyways, another odd thing that my bro told me started to happen during the day while at the homestead was that often he had extreme problems concentrating on what he was doing especially while working in the yard. Like when he was working on one of his several junkers often he would completely forget what he was doing. Other times he would be working on his car normally and then all of the sudden get this sudden and strange sensation that something was falling from above and onto his head! This situation of course tended to make him more than a bit jumpy. Anyways after my
bro consulted with his native friends he and family vacated the premises for the city life. And ever since he has suffered exactly zero concentration problems as well as being a lot less jumpy! And nowadays he considers all talk of the "bushman" taboo as do many of the natives. It's as if they're afraid that somehow he will know that you are talking about him. I too was affected for several weeks after I saw him in the woods behind town. after the four to five minute encounter which I will talk about later when I have the time, I was fairly freaked and slept very fitfully for at least two weeks. Yes I finally got over it and I still go into the woods around town alone and unarmed (save my bowie knife), but I figure if you have good feelings and intentions for the forest and it's creatures, it and they will have good feelings and intentions for you.

Forest Service man finds full footprint, top and bottom

By Rita Swanson, Hoopa People Newspaper

About 30 years ago, Clifton Johnson of Salyer was in the U.S. Forest Service working at the Orleans Ranger District and was assigned the task of looking for downed trees with Ed Glaze right after a snowstorm.

"In the mid-70s after the first big snow, me and another fella had to go up to check the roads," Johnson said. "It had snowed and we were the first tracks up the hill. We went down the roads to see if there were any trees down and were also watching for animal tracks--bears and bobcats. We were both hunters and trappers. We went down a side road and the guy who was driving stopped and said, 'There's a Bigfoot track.'"

Johnson got out to check it out and said it looked like it was about 25 or 30 feet down the road. There were no other dwellings for about 25 miles in deep snow and the two men looked to see if they could backtrack the prints from off the bank. Cliff went down the road and came back off at the top where the footprints had come from.

"I put my hand in it like a shoe (a half-shoe), but it was the Bigfoot--the footprint," Johnson said. "I could feel the toes. All the rest of the casts are soles that you're looking at, but this one (unfortunately we didn't have anything with us to cast it) was each toe."

They tried to backtrack how the Bigfoot had come. The snow was starting to melt and it was hard to see where the creature had gone. They followed the tracks down the road and it had walked out over the edge, then turned around, and went for about 50 feet. Then there was a game trail and it went off onto the game trail.

"There was no other road coming in and we were the first (vehicle)," he said. "I never thought about it until I started to talk to Al (Hodgson). He said no one had ever gotten the top of the foot like that.

"We were both trappers and we know it was not a bear. We had found several bear tracks, too."

Johnson said they were clearly the first vehicle up the main road and off a side road. As they came down the mountain, they were the only vehicle--the only tracks there. Everything else was snowed in. The nearest other road would have been about 20 miles.

"We didn't say anything because they would just laugh at you," Johnson said.
